Gamer Girl Wendy Celebrates National Video Game Day

Wendy here! It’s National Video Games Day!

Before mom’s life, I was wasting HOURS playing video games. Does anyone remember Sammy Light Foot? Or frog? Yes, these were my favorite games on the massif Apple computer (no old jokes, please). I would sneak downstairs to play them when my parents thought I was in bed. And if there ever was an arcade, you better believe that I was playing Joust.

My game got better, along with the rest of the world from the ’80s, when the original Nintendo came out of. I was 11 years old. And the games, although very retro now, blew me away! Super Mario Brothers and Duck hunting! Yes, back then we were shooting ducks, not zombies. It seemed like we were stuck with these games for a few years (maybe my parents just didn’t want to admit that there were more they would end up having to buy). But then the NES world exploded! There was Excite the bike, and Aquaman (One of my favorites), street fighter, and Contra. I have always prevailed at Tetris and Dr mario, but not so much to games like Mike Tyson’s Punch. It’s because I’m more in love than a fighter… or something like that.

The college years are when I really had problems with wasting time. Those character-driven RPGs were my kryptonite. There would be days when I would get lost in building a character on my PC. Ultimate Online… I was a Grand Master Mage. Diablo 2 (because Blizzard took FOREVER to release 3), a Witch. Then there was Red alert command and To conquer, and Caesar (Sim city before Sim city was one thing!).

Happy National Video Games Day !!!
