Inaugural Cascade Heritage Day includes 5km, games and activities for kids
Cascade Township will celebrate its history with the first Cascade Heritage Day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on September 25 at the Kent District Library – Cascade Township Branch, 2870 Jacksmith Ave. SE.
The event will feature a 5km run, a fun 1 mile run, a cornhole tournament, rides and activities for the kids, food from local restaurants, book sales and live music from the band local Signal Point.
There will also be Cascade Historical Society booths for attendees to view historical facts and photos on signage along the 5K course and throughout the library property.
“We are thrilled to come together with the community and celebrate what makes Cascade Township such a special place to live, work, eat and play,” said Ben Swayze, Director of Cascade Township. “With a 5K, a cornhole tournament, rides, local food and live music, Cascade Heritage Day has something for everyone, and we can’t wait to start this tradition in the Township.”
The 5K will start at 9 a.m. outside the library. The race will run east on Thornbook Street, south on Thornhills Avenue and north on Thornapple River Drive before returning to the library.
The cornhole tournament will feature school age divisions. The 5K and cornhole tournaments are operated by Athletic Timers of Michigan.
The program of events is:
- 9 h – 5 km
- 9:30 am – fun 1 mile run
- 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Cornhole tournament and community festival with rides and activities for the kids, food from local restaurants and a book sale
- 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. – Live music by local band Signal Point
Admission, festival rides and live music are free. However, the 5K costs $ 30 per person. Fees include a t-shirt, medal, Heritage Day tokens, race photo, and post-race fuel. The 1 mile fun run costs $ 20 per person and includes a t-shirt, medal, race photo, and post-race fuel. Late registration rates will begin after September 10.
The cornhole tournament costs $ 25 per team. All 5K and fun run participants will receive a 50% reduction on the cornhole tournament fee. Cornhole Division winners will receive challenge coins and prizes. Food and drinks must be purchased in cash.
