Jennifer Lawrence spent days deciding if she should do “The Hunger Games”


For many actors, being chosen in a movie like The hunger Games is a dream come true. Based on the eponymous book, the film already had a large built-in audience. Additionally, the film would become the start of a huge franchise, making billions of dollars and well-known names from its main cast. But despite the perks of the job, Jennifer Lawrence almost turned down the role.

While Jennifer Lawrence was not very well known before playing Katniss Everdeen, she made a career in the entertainment industry. The actor has made a name for himself in the world of independent cinema. In 2010, she even got her first Oscar nomination for her role as Ree Dolly in Winter bone. So even though the actor wasn’t making millions or not being a real celebrity, she was more than happy with his career and life.

In fact, Lawrence was so happy that she considered refusing The hunger Games because she didn’t want her life to become a media circus. She spent days weighing the pros and cons of accepting the role of Katniss. “I gave myself three days,” recalls Lawrence. “I knew from reading the books that I liked The hunger Games, I didn’t know if it was worth changing my life. I’m in a peaceful place right now… No one is staked outside my house. I wanted to make sure that when I said yes, I didn’t regret it. And I do not regret it.”

Continuing, Lawrence shared that she finally realized that refusing The hunger Games would have been a decision based on fear. “I would have said no because I was scared, then I would have been that bitter actress telling my grandchildren, ‘I was the one who refused.'”

While Lawrence ultimately accepted the role, she was wise to be wary of giving up her privacy. Considering The hunger Games had such a massive and involved fan base, she was constantly in the public light. In fact, she made the mistake of going to Whole Foods on the day the film premiered in theaters and was mobbed by a group of fans. Although this was his first intense experience, it was not the last. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she spoke candidly about the toll fame that took her.

Playing in ‘The Hunger Games’ meant Lawrence had to give up his privacy for a few years

“I call my mom sobbing all the time… facing the repercussions of not having anonymity anymore,” Lawrence explained. “You lose your privacy. While it’s a curse, silly as it sounds, to make as much money as I do doing something I love, it’s hard not to regret it when you’re being chased by 15 strangers.

Fortunately, Lawrence seems to have found some semblance of peace in his career. She continues to work on projects, but has a lot more privacy. The fame that The hunger Games Bringing her in may have been a challenge, but it was probably worth it for the actor when all was said and done
